VACANCY: Head Custodian, Days – Darien High School
EFFECTIVE: March 15, 2010
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and understanding of custodial and maintenance practices and procedures
- Ability to communicate with others – both in writing and verbally
- Ability to supervisor other workers
- Basic understanding of operating and monitoring essential building systems (boilers, fire alarms, etc.)
- Ability to operate custodial machinery, climb scaffolding and ladders, lift/push/pull loads in excess of 50 lbs. and perform general custodial tasks that require reasonable strength and agility
- Ability to plan and organize work tasks and develop and track periodic maintenance procedures
- Ability to accurately complete record keeping functions, such as time sheets, tracking of work orders, inventorying supplies and facility usage requests
- Ability to utilize a computer for basic Microsoft Office applications and e-mail
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a working supervisory position with general responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, overseeing the daily custodial services provided at the school and monitoring the building systems for proper operation.

VACANCY: Special Education Aide – Group I
EFFECTIVE: Immediately
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Special education aides work under the overall supervision of their building principal with direct supervision provided by special education teachers. They are employed when required to implement special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students. Their duties will vary depending upon the age of students served as well as the nature and severity of the student’s disabilities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Special Education Teacher to implement special education and related services
- Assist students to complete instructional activities
- Assist in the supervision of students as required to meet individual needs
- Provide physical assistance based on student need, including but not limited to lifting, transferring, moving from class to class, feeding, toileting, restraining
- Participate in training activities as required by the District
- Perform other duties as directed by the principal and/or supervising teacher, which are related to facilitating success (i.e. instructional, social, behavioral) for students with disabilities
- Such other related duties as assigned
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Candidates for special education aide positions must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a high school diploma
- Be capable of physically assisting students with specials needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
- Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
- Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
- Have willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position
