From the Board of Education
December 4, 2013
Dear Darien School Community,
The Darien Board of Education was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Mrs. MaryLee Fisher, former principal of Tokeneke Elementary School. Mrs. Fisher passed away last Wednesday following a short illness.
Mrs. Fisher served as Tokeneke Elementary School Principal for 15 years prior to her retirement in 2011. She was considered an outstanding educational leader who demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting the learning needs of students. Notably, Mrs. Fisher played an important role in the planning and building of the new Tokeneke Elementary School.
A former art teacher, Mrs. Fisher was honored following her retirement with the dedication of a beautiful mural at Tokeneke Elementary School that depicts images of different characters from classic children’s literature. As members of the school community see this mural in the library setting, they are reminded of Mrs. Fisher’s love of the arts and of her meaningful contributions to the Darien school community.
We will remember Mrs. Fisher in our hearts and minds and we offer our deep sympathy to her family.
With the support of Mrs. Fisher’s family, a memorial scholarship fund in recognition of Mrs. Fisher’s love of the arts and contributions to the Darien Public Schools is being established by the Tokeneke PTO. This scholarship will be given to a Tokeneke graduating senior who plans on pursuing post-high school study of the arts. Contributions can be sent to:

Darien Public Schools Implementation of Visitor Management System Tuesday 12/3
The Darien Public Schools will feature a new visitor management system beginning on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Visitors who wish to enter school buildings will be requested to scan their photo identification and receive a visitor's badge. This is part of a new security clearance system aimed at making our schools safer for students and staff. It offers us a high-tech way of keeping track of who is in our buildings at any time and is useful in cases of emergency.
