Sharing Directory Info & Email/Text Notifications

Darien is now using ASPEN, a secure Web-based information management system to collect contact and medical emergency information and for parents to request non-disclosure of directory information for students.  School Messenger will be used for email/text notifications in place of Ed Alert.

We are pleased to announce that the new Darien Public Schools’ Special Education Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOPM) has been posted on the Darien Public Schools website and is available for immediate use.  In addition, hard copies of the manual will be available in each school.


The Special Education Standard Operating Procedures Manual provides general guidance and explanations of procedural requirements for the provision of special education and related services to children eligible for such services.  In the near future, active hyperlinks will be added to the web version, allowing readers to link to the websites cited in the Resources Section of each chapter in the manual.


Two companion documents, the Parent Guide to Special Education and the Manual on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act are undergoing final review and are expected to be available on line and in hard copy prior to the end of October.

On December 16, 2013, the Darien Board of Education received the final version of the special education report, “Procedures and Practices Relevant to the Administration and Operation of Instruction, Services and Support for Students with Disabilities in the Darien Public Schools for the 2012-2013 School Year,”  prepared at the Board’s request  by Sue Gamm, Esq.  A revised Executive Summary (dated December 16, 2013) was also received.
