Health Education
Objectives: The Health Education Curriculum has been planned and organized to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to deal with complex health issues.
Topics Covered: Health topics such as nutrition, communicable diseases, AIDS and substance abuse are included in each
quarter-length course. First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation are taught in the 11th/12th grade health course.
Physical Education
Objectives:- To help students develop and refine their skills in a wide variety of activities;
- to arm students with basic skills and techniques so they might participate in physical activity as they get older;
- to develop a working knowledge of selected concepts related to physical activity, health and performance,
- to contribute to the development and/or maintenance of appropriate levels of physical fitness.
Course Sequence Chart for Physical Education/Health
Graduation Requirement: Students are required to pass twelve quarters of Physical Education and four quarters of Health Education during their four years at Darien High School. Students must pass the Jogging/Weight Training Unit in Grade 9 or 10 and CPR (which is part of Health) in Grade 11 or 12.
