Parental Control Computer Workshop

Due to an overwhelming response The Darien Police Youth Division and the Darien Depot are once again offering a parents-only Internet safety workshop . Turnout was so high that they will be hosting two more workshops; one workshop for Mac users April 5, and another for PC users April 12.

Detective Chet Perkowski, a forensic computer specialist with the Darien police, will be teaching this hands-on class to teach parents how to set parental controls, install monitoring programs and navigate and understand social media. The class, called "Straight Talk," will also give step-by-step instructions on recovering deleted search histories, finding out what kids are revealing over chats and removing content from the Internet.

The classes will last from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It is free of charge and recommended for parents of children in fifth grade through High School. Registration is required. To register, email straighttalkdarien@gmail.com. For additional information, contact Detective Mark Cappelli at 203-662-5368.

The Jobs Office, which maintains a listing of student employment opportunities, is now online at: www.darienps.org/dhsjobs or can be accessed by students via the online DHS website. Students must register online to receive their password which then gives them 24 hour access to all available employment opportunities. The site is updated regularly and is open all year. Employers access the site directly to complete a job posting which is then reviewed before being added to the online site. Students must contact prospective employers themselves as employers are not enabled to see student details. The Jobs Office can be contacted by email at dhsjobsoffice@gmail.com or by phone at 203 424 0652.

Athletes entering grade 10 need BOTH the Connecticut State Health Assessment form AND the DHS sports physical exam form.
If you are entering grade 10 and are not participating in any sport in any athletic season, State Law requires you to have a physical and to bring the nurse a completed Connecticut State Health Assessment form.
