A Brief Synopsis The fabled land of Amala is fractured and divided because its people do not understand the value of interconnectedness and the sacredness of the light found in the Great Tree at the center of the kingdom. The people of Amala grow distant and try to survive apart from each other, squandering the precious light of the tree. As the light fades and darkness falls over the land, the faults and flaws of humanity prevent them from understanding how to save Amala and its people. Through their trials and adventures, each character understands how they acted unwisely and together they return to the great tree and reunite to relight the Tree of Light and celebrate in its warm and nurturing glow. Characters/Roles in FableHans and Maya: Two present-day Amalans, who serve as narrators of this tale of darkness and light. (Song: Light of Amala) Roam: The leader of the lively Eastern Village of Amala. He represents the free-spirited and work-ethic challenged side of humanity. Roam believes that life is too short to worry. His motto could easily be “carpe diem.” He returns from his journey to the Great Tree to find his fellow villagers tired, hungry, and worried about the future. To brighten their spirits, he reaches into his basket filled with light harvested from the tree and passes out pieces of the treasure, fashioned into party lights and glow sticks. He sings to them that life is one big party, and there is no need to worry today, because tomorrow will take care of itself. (Song: Slice of Life) Mojo: During the “Slice of Life” Mojo the goat gets into the act and offers encouragement in his own special way… (Song: sings rap solo in Slice of Life) Maeve: The leader of the Western village her Western Village who doesn’t believe in herself enough to make the decision of how to best use the light for the benefit of her people. She is intelligent, compassionate and brave but lacks self-confidence. (Song: You Were Loved) Grey and Runt: Maeve’s pet wolves Lone: Pet wolf of Maeve. Through a mystical enchantment Maeve’s belief in and love for her “best friend” Lone merges his soul with the light of the tree of Amala, creating a boy with a brilliance glowing from within. Maeve believes that this new incarnation of Lone will be the answer to all of her problems, the perfect leader, but Lone is over-burdened Maeve’s love and by the weight of having to be the hero of the entire race of Amalans. (Song: Reach Out) Chance: The overly cautious and prudent leader of the Southern Village. She has concocts a regimented schedule in which the amount of light allotted per day is strictly rationed and the work is ongoing and relentless in her village. Chance is the uptight type who crosses all her t’s and dots every i. She is also the character who changes the most throughout the musical. (Song: March Your Feet).
