. Indian sister town reps visit MMS The board in the rotunda read, “Welcome friends of Mercara, India!” This was the message when six students from our sister town in India came to Middlesex full of bravery. They preformed traditional dances and presented us with gifts. To Dr. Boccanfusso, they gave a beautiful shawl. We too gave remembrances of their trip. We gave them all MMS t-shirts and a photo of Middlesex. During the visit, each student shared their age and grade. A couple spoke of how brave our country was. The four girls and two boys that presented to students across all three grades had a lot to say. The girls' saris, or traditional wraps or dresses, were colored red to symbolize fruitfulness and prosperity. The boys wore head turbans. Their clothes represented so much and yet were so simple. We have had our Indian sister town for fifty years. For twenty years, a single man named Jepu Uthoppa kept our relationship going strong. He is the Darien-Mercara Association president. We have represented MMS and America so well. We should be proud to have such brave friends from India . |
