India : A country in need

How would you feel if you lived in a mud hut and walked over two hours just to get to a ramshackle school that does not even have proper reading material? This is a problem that hundreds of kids in our sister town face on a daily basis.

Fortunately, Middlesex has collected thousands of books for us to send. MMS students and faculty donated books from personal libraries and new books bought just to make a kid's life better. Unfortunately, there is one tiny problem. We do not have enough money to ship the books half way around the world to the kids who need them the most. The kids will be happy to receive this generous donation, but the work is not done.

Each year we pride ourselves in being the top donating school to UNICEF. When we donate to that great cause, the United Nations receives the money raised, and then spreads the money out to unfortunate people in the world. By donating books, we are giving more than just money. It won't just be another gift, it will be a special occasion. The children of our sister town will have the resources that they need to get a proper education.
