Stay fit and meet a friend with After School Sports The After School Sports Program has been a staple for student activity at Middlesex for several years. However, those who don't participate in the various sports available to students don't always know what the program is truly about. Because it is such an excellent program, I decided to swing by Mr. Zeyer's office to find out a little more about the program. For those who do not know him, Mr. Zeyer is a gym teacher and is one of the teachers in charge of After School Sports. Charlie: First of all Mr. Zeyer, describe the After School Sports Program. Mr. Zeyer: Well, it's basically a program that's designed to give students more opportunities to play sports after school. Ch: What is the main goal of this program? Mr. Z: We have two main goals. One is for students to meet other students and make friends. The other is to give students opportunities to perform physical activities and, most importantly, have an awesome time! Ch: What sports do you usually cover? Mr. Z: Usually soccer, which ended last week, flag football, which starts this week, volleyball, basketball, hockey, ping pong, and on off-days (Fridays), we sometimes open up the weight room. Ch: Has anything changed from years past? Mr. Z: Attendance numbers have gone down. Many factors contribute to this, including more students signing up for sports teams outside of school and more activities being offered to students after school. Ch: How can students get into the program? Mr. Z: Before each season, students can sign up for a particular sport in gym class. Ch: Finally, how did the soccer season go this season? Mr. Z: The attendance has been steady, the students that attend seem to be having fun. It's just been great so far. We're hoping football will also be successful and more students will participate. |
