Welcome to The Dragon! Welcome to the first online edition of The Dragon in Middlesex history! As you know, last year this newspaper was called From the Start, the first online magazine at MMS. The Dragon replaced From the Start for several reasons. For one, now that From the Start is an online newspaper, we can include components of a magazine in the newspaper. In addition to From the Start, The Dragon will also include Spotlight Magazine, and we will be taking submissions of writing, artwork, and various other student pieces that would normally be published in Spolight. As you read further, you will find that this newspaper reports in depth on various topics. Such topics include world news, MMS news, Spotlight Magazine, book reviews, school trips, international experiences, and much more! You may be wondering, “Who writes all the pieces that are published in the newspaper?” Well, the answer is simple—your classmates and friends! This year, a selected group of students here in the Middlesex community from seventh and eighth grade were chosen to be apart of The Dragon's staff. However, if a student would like to be apart of the staff, they simply must pick up an application from Mr. Sorensen in room 335, or Ms. Warren in room 166. The Dragon staff loves to work with new, creative writers! The Dragon is a regular club at MMS that meets during activity periods. The newspaper's staff works on various article topics (listed above) as well as conducting interviews during these 40 minute sessions. The writers also work outside of club meetings such as before and after school, and during study halls. The club is advised by Mr. Sorensen (Grade 6) and Ms. Warren (Grade 8), two English teachers here at MMS. Out of all the staff, the advisors' efforts shine the brightest, because without them, this newspaper would not be possible. As the co-editors of The Dragon, we would like to thank everyone who helped make this newspaper possible, and we wish The Dragon and its staff the best of luck throughout the year! Sincerely, Hannah Nolte, Grade 8 Co-editors
