By Hannah N., Tan Team & Reyna V., Green Team

On January 23rd , Middlesex held its annual Foreign Language Poetry Contest. The contestants for this contest are the students who are able to recite a poem in a foreign language the most accurately in their class. Students who are selected must meet the following criteria—accuracy, accent, memorization, and expression. Three students out of all levels are selected to attend a state-wide contest.

The students selected from the Spanish 6 class were Christopher McGlade, Madison Wood, and Hannah Foley. 7th Grade Spanish representatives were Matt Pik, Kevin Koenitzer, Toby Sestak, and Geoff Short. Spanish students in eighth grade were Charlotte Morgan, Cristina Patrizio, Emma Tuzinkiewicz, Audrey Sandberg. The Spanish native speakers were Cindy Gaete and Danielle Orozco.

The contest winners in French 6 were Jonathan Gill, Caroline Gentile, and Caroline Wiehs. In 7th grade, the winners were Fernando Rodriguez-Barbaret, Danielle DeNunzio, and Michael Palmer. In French 8, the competitors were Collin Shay, Emily Knebel, and Sara Kamilatos. The French native speaker was Kevin Koenitzer.

The Chinese Native winners were Kristen Hawley, Michael Ying, and William Juan. The Polish native competitor was Patty Matyszkiewicz, the Italian native student was Toby Sestak, the Japanese native recitor was Ken Katagari, and the ESL Grade 6 representative was Yuta Inumaru.

We congratulate all these students and wish them the best of luck in the state-wide competition in April. We would also like to congratulate and thank our World Language Department for their tireless efforts on behalf of our students.
