Behind the Scenes: MMS Custodians
By Charlie B., Purple Team

Whenever you do crafts or work on a big project in school, your teacher usually says, "Don't make a huge mess, otherwise the custodians will have to clean it up!” But have you ever wondered what the custodians really do?

I was wondering myself, so I decided to swing by the Custodians' Office to chat with Vick and Paul, two of Middlesex's great custodians. In fact, Vick is the school's head custodian, and Paul has been at Middlesex for quite awhile.

When asked how they felt about being a custodian at Middlesex, Vick said, "It's nice dealing with kids, seeing them grow up."

Paul was a little graphic, "The job changes every day. One day, we might have to clean up throw up. Another day, we could have to disassemble chairs from an assembly."

This led me to the goal of my visit, what is it exactly that the custodians do?

"Well, we open up the school and close it everyday. We also clean up every classroom after school," Vick said.

Paul continued, "Also, I'm in the cafeteria during most lunch shifts, making it a fun place for kids to eat their lunch!"

The custodians make our school a nice and clean place to go to. If you have to go somewhere for five days a week, you probably want it to be clean and pleasant, not grungy and disgusting. Thanks to hard workers like Vick and Paul, Middlesex is a great place for the teens of Darien to learn. Hats off to the custodians!
