Fall Fashions Come Into Bloom Octavia says... Hey, stylish students! Are you in need of some pointers on how to use this season's latest trends? Do you want a chic look without much fuss? Or, how about looking good and staying warm? Look no further, because I'm here to help. Turtlenecks —Yep, these aren't for your grandmother's grandmother anymore. That is, if you wear them the right way. Let me explain. Long sleeve turtlenecks are a big NO. They are the epitome of granny-ness. Instead, try a short-sleeve turtleneck. They are trés chic and trés mod as well (mod is short for modern, for those of you that didn't know). They come in many colors, sizes, variations, and fabrics. I've seen them in cotton and polyester, and I have one in wool. They are great for layering and staying nice and toasty while looking fashionable. But, grab ‘em while you can—these mod tops won't last long! Scarves —When I realized the weather was finally cooling down, I actually jumped for joy. Although this may seem odd, fall is my favorite season, for many reasons. First of all, my birthday's in November, so that's a big motive. I love the leaves falling, the brisk temperatures, the apple cider, and, most of all, SCARVES. That's right. Fall is the perfect time to don my scarf collection. And you can join in the fun!! The world of scarves seems never-ending. There are wool scarves, cotton scarves, knit scarves, patterned scarves, solid scarves, and even silk scarves! They all have one thing in common, though: they make perfect accessories! They keep your neck temperate while adding to your outfit. You can wear them with a coat or inside, as part of your ensemble. They are a big part of fall and a wonderful way of dressing for the season. School-girl-chic —It sounds hard to believe, but it's true. The classic school-girl style is coming back. One thing about this trend is that there are many, MANY options to choose from. Anything and everything plaid (especially ballet flats!), oxford shirts, tuxedo vests, fitted blazers (I love my cream velvet one!), hats, belts, and everything with buttons. It's so easy to capture this style and look fabulous without much effort. Give it a try! Whitney says... Fall: a beautiful fashion season... Collections are debuting, leaves are falling, and everyone's looking great. Although there are many fall trends, we all have our own personal style, and my favorites are... Menswear –Boys clothes aren't just for boys anymore. Men's clothing such as vests, fedora hats, and oxford shirts keep you looking sharp and trendy. My favorite thing about them is that even though these pieces were meant for boys to wear them formally, we girls can wear them casually. Overall, if you don't have that certain finishing touch to an outfit, just put on something menswear and you'll have a quirk! Berets and other hats — Although Octavia isn't a fan of this trend, I really like them. Plus, we can make good use of those weird hats our grandma knitted for us that have been at the backs of our closets since we were four (even at that young age, we knew what was in and what was out!). My personal hat, which is a deep purple, was knitted for me a few years ago by my grandma, and she is certainly very happy that I am wearing it again. The one flaw that this trend has is that some people pull the hat completely down on their head like you would if you were trying to stay warm. Instead, wear the hat just behind your bangs so some of your hair shows, and you don't have hat-head. These hats are really good with jeans and long waves. Side bangs —Trends aren't just for clothing! I'm a big fan of side bangs because they look good whatever face shape you have. The sorter styles were in last year, but now our bangs have grown out to chin-length and they still look great. Longer side bangs are more versatile because they can reach back into a ponytail, but also look good down. If you're tired of your bangs getting in your eyes, pull them back with a bobby pin and wear one of the aforementioned hats.
This season has been one of our favorites – menswear, berets, side bangs, oh my! – We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! |
