Middlesex Heads Down The Yellow Brick Road
By Juliane R., Blue Team

Another magical Middlesex play is on its way down the yellow brick road of production. This year, we thought it's time to change it up a little and try on a new pair of shoes. This time, they're red and sparkly. You guessed it; this year's play is the Wizard of Oz .

We all know the story of Dorothy's magical adventure down the yellow brick road, through the land of the munchkins, and her battle with the Wicked Witch of the West...but just incase anyone has not seen this classical movie, or read the book, I will quickly refresh what the story is about.

When a raging twister hits Kansas , Dorothy Gale, her beloved dog Toto, and her little farm house are forcefully swept away. In doing so, Dorothy bumps her head and falls into a deep sleep.

When she awakens, she finds herself in an enchanted land surrounded by singing munchkins and guarded by the beautiful good witch, Glinda. But in all things good, there is always something bad. In this case, that bad thing is the Wicked Witch of the West.

Determined to get back to Kansas , Dorothy and Toto set out on a quest down the yellow brick road to Emerald City , where their only hope of getting home resides...The Wizard of Oz. Along the way she accompanies a heartless tin woodsman, a scarecrow with no brain, and a cowardly lion. Together they continue on to see the Wizard of Oz.

But being watched by the Wicked Witch of the West, the 4 friends must dodge dangerous traps set by the witch herself in hopes of getting what they all desire in life. They finally arrive at Emerald City , only to be told by the Wizard that they must kill the witch in order to get what they ask for. Is the Wicked Witch finally put to rest? Watch the play to find out.

Though this is a different play from last year's performance of FABLE , the directors and producer are all the same. They include: Mrs. Maher--director, Miss Lambert--Musical Director, and Mr. Sorensen--Producer.

The play's leads include: Dorothy, the Tinman, the Scarecrow, the Lion, the Wicked Witch of the West, The Good Witch Glinda, and possibly Toto.

Auditions are November 26th, 27th, and 28th, with callbacks on the 29th. There is expected to be more than 100 students auditioning so sign-up soon! Packets will be available November 1st. Dance auditions will be Thursday, December 13th, and ALL rehearsals will take place immediately after Christmas break.
