Spotlight: Once Upon A Fench Prologue “Ow” I whispered. While my best friend, Annabela pulled me up from the cold, hard autumn ground she asked, “Why do they always bother us, Blossom?” Myrtle and her gruesome followers, Tori and Lori, always picked on the two most innocent girls in the 6 th grade. “Oh, no! Here they come again!” we said in a chorus. “So what are you two going to be for Halloween?” Myrtle smirked, “teacher pets?” “Myrtle, that's going to be hard for them” said Lori. Right on cue Tori screamed, “Because they already are!” The three of them burst out laughing. “No.” Annabela said with pride and courage, “We are going to be the fairies.” Once again they shrieked with laughter. “Then what are you going to be?” I asked quietly. “We…are… going…to…be…the…three…witches!” Tori and Lori exclaimed. They walked off falling onto each other, laughing and cackling. Chapter 1 “They're getting closer!” Annabela screamed with fear. Feeling the cool crisp air whip my face I swung my head around. “Wow, they sure look a lot like witches.” I said as I brought my head back. Seeing the smile creep onto Annabela's face, I said “let's turn here.” Our eyes popped open seeing the dead end that awaited us. We turned around on our heels, but it was too late. “What are you going to do, fairies?” cracked Myrtle. “That's the fairies to you” Annabela said lamely. Looking stupidly at her followers, Myrtle said, “Fine freaklys, I mean fairies.” “Give us all of your candy and we will let this one slide” laughed Tori. Taking a step towards Myrtle, I said, “No - you always push us around and we don't like it!” As I looked back at Annabela for approval, Lori took a step forward and pushed me to my misery. “Looks like we are on top of you again” they said as a threesome. I searched my body for any signs of bleeding. Luckily there were none. “Now give us all your candy, bracelets, and, oh your long fake eyelashes,” demanded Lori as Annabela helped me to my feet. “But before you said only our candy!” whined Annabela. “Well, you should have thought about that before you made us mad!” Myrtle smirked. As they started to corner us I whispered to Annabela “prepare to jump the fence!” We turned and leapt into the air screaming. Once we fell on the soft luscious grass, in a blurred voice, Annabela said only three words - “We made it!” Chapter 2 As we brushed off the dirt from our pants, we looked around and gasped. Not only were we at most, four feet tall, but we were surrounded by salmon colored candy trees and blue grass that felt like feathers. “Where are you?” I asked, staring in a daze at the odd features. I clamped my hands over my mouth. I had the highest pitch, non-human voice ever. “We are surely not in the alley anymore!” Annabela said in the same high pitched voice. Annabela started to feel around. As she brushed her hand against her eye, she said, “Hey Blossom, my fake eyelashes feel almost real.” Still stunned by our surroundings, I carelessly touched my fake eyelashes. “Annabela” I said with caution, “they are real and have you noticed that our skin is orange?” As Annabela started to gasp, I observed my body. I touched my wings, which were also real, and started to think. After a few seconds of thinking I said, “We must have turned into fairies as we jumped over the fence!” “Impossible” was the only thing Annabela said. For at least five minutes, there was complete silence. Knowing Annabela, she was probably worrying. “We should see if there is any civilization here.” Annabela said with no emotion. We walked in utter silence. As we walked, I was trying to figure out how to use our tiny wings, but I could only manage a little flutter. After a while Annabela started to have her famous melt-downs. “We are never getting out of here! Never, Never, NEVER! Do you hear me Blossom? Never!” “Calm down.” I said. “We are going to starve to death and no one's going to be able to find our bodies!” “Annabela, we are going to be fine! I said encouraging her. “Look, there is some kind of water over there and where there is water there are plants. Besides, I believe there is a civilization head, because who could have built this path?” All of a sudden I shot up into the cool breezed air. “Whoa!” I said excitedly. Looking up Annabela said, “How did you do that?” Pausing for a moment I said, “I guess that I wasn't thinking and I believed that we would be ok. I will carry you until we find someone.” Without a thought I swooped down and picked her up. After a few minutes our fate began to change. “Look at that” Annabela exclaimed, “A town!” To be continued…
