As the snow is melting, and the weather is finally warming up, a change not only in weather, but also in fashion approaches. Many new trends arrive this season, as well as updating some of fall 2008’s looks. Looks from fall which fashionistas can incorporate into their closets this spring include the 70’s bohemian/hippie chic styles. Update fall’s fringed moccasins for lace up flat sandals and a hippie-chic tie-dye dress, as well as western frontier looks.

Other looks from fall, which carry into spring, include girlish, romantic details. Think goddess-inspired pieces with copious amounts of bows, florals and ruffles. This trends’ color palate includes soft hues of pink and nude, as well as pastel lilacs and periwinkles. Further feminine frocks from fall include high-wasted ladylike skirts.

Although these trends seem a bit frivolous during an economic crisis, there is no need to break the bank in high end stores while searching for the perfect spring ensemble. Posh, pricy designers are now coming out with lines for less expensive stores such as Charlotte Ronson for JC Penney, Alexander McQueen for Target, Erickson Beamon jewelry for Target, as well as Kate Moss for Top Shop. Classic stores such as Gap, The Limited, Old Navy, and United Colors of Benetton which usually carry affordable basics, are following trends this spring season, and yes, still affordable.

If you do not feel like following the trends or spending money on seasonal, monthly pieces, take a trip to your nearest thrift or consignment shop for timeless pieces. New Canaan, Greenwich, and Darien all have countless amounts of thrifty stores stacked with designers such as Ferragamo, Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, to name a few. Buying a classic jacket or dress and spending the extra 20 or 30 dollars to have it tailored can turn into a life long wardrobe investment.
