There is one unavoidable fixture in the hallways of Darien High School: the bathrooms. Convenient facilities born out of the invention and commercialization of plumbing, these rooms hold what it most valuable to a student in a time of need. Luckily for the school population, DHS has a multitude of bathrooms scattered throughout its halls. But your location when you need to go is of upmost importance, because the closest bathroom may not be the most desirable one. Neirad investigates this matter, letting you know the hidden treasures of the DHS boys' bathrooms, and which ones to avoid.

Worst Bathrooms

B222

This bathroom is one of the least accommodating facilities in the school.  It is located in a heavily populated area of DHS, which makes it susceptible to the wear and tear of a school day.  And despite the fact that it can get the most crowded, there is barely any room at all.  It is always strewn with paper towels and grime, while water covers most of the floor.  Out of the two stalls, both have broken handles, which makes privacy difficult to come by.  Also, one of the sinks doesn’t work, which just adds to its overall poor condition.

This bathroom is one of the worst in the school, and for this reason it earned a measly one-star rating out of five.

Coolest Bathroom

F104

Of all the bathrooms in DHS, F104 is by far the coolest bathroom in the school.  The entrance of the facility is a long hallway, which makes even the feeblest mind perceptible to thoughts of glory and wonder.  The hallway leads to an accommodating space which contains two stalls that are tucked away into a secluded area at the far end of the room.  Though one of the handles is broken, it doesn’t matter too much because this is one of the most unpopulated bathrooms in the school.  One added bonus to the bathroom is the fact that it is located in the art wing, which allows you to enjoy a scenic view before you even enter.  Also, there are some interesting drawings in the bathroom itself…

All in all, this is one sweet bathroom.  The combination of the cool hallway, the privacy, and the scenic views all mix together to create a beautiful product.  However, this is not the best bathroom in the school, which is why it received a praiseworthy three and a half star rating.

Best Bathroom Finalists

C114

C114 was decently clean (with the exception of a senior who walked into the bathroom and promptly spat on the wall).  It had only two stalls, which was disappointing, yet luckily all the handles were in good condition.  One of my top reasons for supporting this bathroom is the lack of foot traffic in this area of the school.  There is a decent amount of space, which is always a plus, and the lack of students makes the experience very peaceful.  However, my personal pet peeve is not having options.  The two stalls can be very limiting, and were taken into consideration during the decision-making process.

The Winner bathroom f006

F006

It was a tough decision, but in the end I decided to go with F006.  The main reason for my choice is was the sheer size of the room along with the amount of useable facilities.  This bathroom is off the beaten path, but it is a gem once you step inside.  In my opinion, it’s worth taking the long route out of class just to use this top notch bathroom.  When I first saw this bathroom, it was as if I had entered the land of opportunity.  The room was spacious and relatively clean, which immediately made it pleasing to the eye.  The next thing I noticed was the abundance of stalls, urinals and sinks.  There were 5 of each, which, added up, makes this bathroom the most well stocked in the whole school.  Though one of the 5 stalls had a broken handle, I felt that the vast amount of other choices more than made up for it.  There are so many different choices it’s almost impossible to fathom.  Another aspect of the bathroom is the lack of foot traffic.  This is both a positive and a negative because, though the area is tranquil, it’s very out-of-the-way.  This makes it difficult to truly have a worthwhile experience during school hours.

Final Score

F006—four and a half stars
C114—four stars
