Q & A with Freshman Laxer Case Matheis

Blue Wave lacrosse has a rising star. Case Matheis is the first freshman player to start DHS varsity lax in 21 years. Neirad Enilno's Jay Alter talked to him about his debut season in the big leagues of East Coast lacrosse.
Neirad: How does it feel to be on the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman?
Case Matheis: “It has been a cool experience but it also has been a big adjustment from youth lacrosse to high school lacrosse.”
N: How many goals and assists this year?
CM: "I only played in 9 games (so far) and scored 17 goals and 10 assists
N: How’d you get injured and how did you feel about your injury?
CM: "I suffered a high ankle sprain in the beginning of our game versus Wilton. It was very disappointing to miss out games against Yorktown (loss), Fairfield Ludlowe, and Fairfield Warde.
N: What stick do you use?
CM: "I use a STX proton power.
N: Future in lacrosse?
CM: "I hope to play D1 lacrosse in college and I’ll see where it takes me from there.
N: How’d you get into lacrosse?
CM: "I started in first grade with Blue Wave Buddies and have just continued playing through the town during the season on travel teams and with Connecticut Chargers during the summer.
N: How do you think Darien Boys Lacrosse will be during your tenure at DHS?
CM: "I think that we will have good teams for the next three seasons and hopefully we have at least one undefeated season.
N: What do other players think of you?
CM: "The guys on the team view me as a little kid. Alex Wildish (junior) has given me the nickname babyface. Ryan Mulligan (senior) calls me cute and it scares me. "
