"The Jets Sanchise"
NEIRAD enilno edition
“J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!” The New York Jets are back! After a disappointing 2008 season, Jets fans now have something in which to look forward: Mark Sanchez.
Sanchez and the Jets started well. But the team is 1-3 in its last four games. Sanchez had five interceptions in an overtime loss showing his “rookieness.”
Junior Sam Nelson, who has season tickets to the Jets, realizes that New York fans are more excited with this new quarterback. “Mark Sanchez is pumping up the crowds despite some weakness. The stadium is so loud with all the encouraging cheers from the fans that everything starts to shake,” Nelson said.
Sanchez was drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He was coming from a successful year with University of Southern California Trojans. This 22-year-old rookie is giving Jets’ fans hope, knowing that he might become rookie of the year.
The Jets are kicking off the season strong. They have won their first three games, including one against the archrival, Patriots. This was the first victory against New England on the home turf since 2000. Also, Sanchez became the first rookie quarterback to start and win his first three games of an NFL season.
However, they lost their first game of the season last week against the New Orleans Saints. This was mainly caused by the two New York turnovers that led to touchdowns for the Saints.
Still after this devastating loss, Jet fans are still holding their heads up high. “Sanchez is a rookie. He is going to make mistakes and will learn from them,” explains season ticket holding Jets fan, Brian Curry.
Sanchez replaced well-known quarterback veteran, Brett Favre, who came out of retirement and played for the Jets last year. Unfortunately, this trade didn’t cut it as the Jets choked and didn’t make the playoffs.
Even fans of other teams are talking about Mark Sanchez. “He’s looking solid and he’ll excel even more with new Jets receiver, Braylon Edwards,” says Broncos fan, Evan Rogers. Diehard Seahawks fan, Evan Burns and devoted Redskins enthusiast, Sam McCarthy, agree on the fact that they would “respect him more with facial hair.” Sanchez is shocking football fans with his talent to scramble and to make crucial decisions under pressure and some non-Jet fans just don’t want to believe it.
Sanchez and the Jets will compete against the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, and Miami Dolphins in the next three weeks. After a devastating loss to Miami Monday night, Sanchez is seeking for revenge.
Is Mark Sanchez the real deal? The Jets future will be determined by whether Sanchez steps up and loses his rookie mistakes.
