As soon as the weatherman predicts snowfall, students begin to do everything in their power to make a snow day happen, whether it’s wearing their PJ’s inside out, flushing ice down the toilet, or other familiar rituals.  Those rituals have worked twice this year with two snow days given last month. (Feb 10 & 26)  Oftentimes students’ hopes are crushed when they wake up to a clear sky and green grass, or even worse, when they wake up to find the ground blanketed in snow but check the list of school closings to find that Darien High School is not among them.

But there are those rare days when every student’s wish is granted, and Darien is given the entire day off of school because of the snow.   Since these days off are often pleasant surprises, most wake up without a plan for the day, as their entire schedule was cleared by the inclement weather.  So when the snowflakes are falling and school is cancelled for the day, how do DHS students use this precious gift?
