Neirad Photo Essay: At the Homecoming Game 2010 By Alice Wang

  • The Blue Wave band comes marching in, full of fanfare.
  • The smoke from the cook-out rose above the heads of the socializing crowd before the game.
  • The bakesale outdid itself, even with tiny footballs decorating the tops of those irresistable cupcakes.
  • Cheerleader Kelly Manhart is ready for action on the track.
  • A little boy, proudly wearing his blue and white, surveys the field while Blue Wave News sets up camera beside him.
  • Both teams displayed great skill and prowess on the field.
  • Early on in the game, Darien was losing, and spirits were slightly low in the stands. Cross country assistant coach Raquel Welsh said, "The game's fun so far, but I did not like the fumble." (pictured with Fay Rizzuto and Grace Loh)
  • There were plenty of kids at the game, like these fifth graders from Ox Ridge who, even when we were losing 0-7, confidently answered the question "Who do you think will win?" with a loud chorus of "Darien!"
  • David Bigelow, who was standing in for football player Charlie Kunze as Homecoming King, cheers with Maddy Gill, now joining the ranks of many others before them as Homecoming royalty.
  • Scotty Waters is ecstatic after the crucial touchdown run by Peter Gesauldi. The roar of the crowd at this victory-making play was deadening inside the stadium, resounding out over the entire school grounds.
  • With less than five minutes left in the game, the Blue Wave secured a win, maintaining this score to the very end.
