The Small, the Red, and the Funny (but you can call her Roney)
NEIRAD enilno edition
We’ve all seen her. Walking in the halls. In the streets. She surprises us, and makes us realize how such a big thing can come in a small package. We are talking of course, about freshman Emily Roney. From an early age, Roney learned that size is nothing next to a personality, and that is what she has made for herself. The petite ginger girl with the ENORMOUS personality.
“She’s a little bundle of energy” said Susan Ruegger, her BSCS and Garden club teacher. Yeah, that’s right. Roney is in BSCS. And Advanced English. And Advanced Geometry. She’s not just a pretty face. She’s got brains too. “It’s a lot of work, but I love it, and I have all of my friends in my classes,” Roney said. One of such friends is freshman Dillon Schoen. “It’s like she’s in her own little world… I love that about her.” Dillon said. One of the things that make Roney so well known in the freshman class is her ability to make many laugh. Her fiery red hair helps out with that a bit too, but for the most part, it’s about the laughter. For example. In geometry, Roney’s “sarcastic” questions and comments (which she sometimes directs towards herself) that she randomly pops throughout her teacher’s lecture about some sort of geometrical proof can rocket the rest of the class into tears of laughter. Literally. Believe me, I’ve experienced it first hand. It’s the truth. She is in her own little world of comedy. It’s awesome.
Roney also works to help the environment in the Garden Club with Mrs. Ruegger. “It’s funny. She just asked me if I wanted to do it one day, and I had no idea what fun I would have. I love it!” As for the others around her while she is gardening, there is not much to be said, other than her teacher, Mrs. Ruegger. “I mean, she’s a wonderful kid. She’s just this great thing in a small package.”
But besides just making these contributions inside the school community, Roney can also be found in the pool doing synchronized swimming at the New Canaan YMCA. For those of you who don’t know, synchro is like gymnastics and dance combined in the pool, and the sport runs almost year round, from August to the following June. “I’m so excited for the season to start. Were learning to do flips this year!” As you may have guessed, she’s the one that the rest of the team throws up in the air. The smaller the better eh? But how did she get into the sport of synchro?
“Well, I love to dance, but that wouldn’t have worked out because I have two left feet, and I love to swim, but I’m not so good at that either. So I guess if I put those two together, I could be good at it”. Yes Roney, nothing less than the truth. As we all know, two negatives make a positive. It is mathematically proven that she is a great synchro swimmer.
Emily Roney has that unique power to make people happy. There is nothing good in the world that she doesn’t love. She can bring friends together in laughter. And maybe we can all learn a lesson. Maybe this little red head can teach us something about ourselves. Maybe, if we all tried to be just like her, the world would be a better place.
