Pictures are worth a thousand words, but for freshman Emily Davis words that paint a picture are worth thousands of readers.

Picture a petite blue-eyed girl sitting up straight on the edge of her chair at a chunky mahogany desk, nimble fingers fluttering across a never ending keyboard.  Her face is relaxed yet focused, and she is slowly being engulfed by papers drenched with typed words that are draped with scribbled editing marks in red ink. Every few minutes or so, the sound of a clicking keyboard comes to a sudden stop, but only momentarily as Emily tries to smooth out plot twists to one of the many novels she is writing.

“While I may be biased, I’ve worked with writers for the past 25 years and it’s rare to find someone who has as much natural ability, ear for dialogue, and paint vivid word pictures at such a tender age” said Jim Davis, Emily’s dad, who works writing campaigns for commercial companies.

“I love realistic modern fiction; what’s happening right now-this year, these people, these trends. I write about 2010.” From this love, a book series was born. Although “I have been writing since I was three,” Emily’s recent works have been a trilogy. The first book in the trilogy, “Gloss,”“introduces the characters and their lives.”

Readers meet the main character Sam who has “a very tough time in school.” In “Gloss” readers also meet the love interest who makes appearances throughout all three books. In order to impress this love interest, Sam invents an alter ego and names her Stacy.

The second novel, “Blush”deals with “the lie she is spinning throughout the whole book.” The plot twists knot tighter when at the ending scene of this novel when Sam’s “arch nemesis . . . who makes her life miserable” finds out about her duel identity.

The third novel, “Powder” is Sam facing the lie that seems to repeatedly “blow up in her face” The whole premise of this novel is Sam’s arch nemesis blackmailing her. To add another layer of the story, though all of these three novels, Sam has the “perfect boyfriend” and Sam must decide to tell her secret crush about her other life, which includes her “official” boyfriend. A fourth and final novel is soon to come to this series that wraps up all the storylines into a happy ending.

Emily’s love for writing doesn’t stop there. She has publishing another novel on wattpad.com where other writers share their work with the world. “It’s out of my comfort zone . . . because it’s science fiction.” Despite the fact that this is her first time writing a piece in this genre, she now has “3,000 something reads.”

Readers on wattpad.com are not the only ones who can see her talents. “Emily’s writing is very clear and concise. She expresses herself well, and I would say she has a good grasp of imagery and vocabulary” English teacher Ivan Crowther said. Even if “the writing techniques your teachers teach you are stupid because they don’t let you express yourself as much as you want, and makes you write things that are useless” Emily has found her passion for words. Nothing will stop this avid writer now.

“Em has an incredibly bright future and we will do everything we can to share her writing with the world,” Jim Davis said.

5 Ways to Get Over Writers Block

  • “Blow up an experience you think is stupid into something that can change someone’s life.”
  • “Push away your writing and read a book.”
  • “Have an idea of what you want to write before you write it.”
  • “Change your position-if you’re sitting up, lie down. If you’re lying down sit up”
  • Stop what you’re writing, look at an object and “describe it as if you’re talking to a blind person”
