The Buried Life

An Interview with the MTV Hit Show:

“The Buried Life”

More by Reed Barthold - 12/11

What do you want to do before you die? That is the question four now 20-something-year-old guys asked themselves five years ago while they were just about to go to college. Ben, Dave, Duncan, and Jonnie compiled a list of 100+ things they wanted to do before they died, and they called it, “The Buried Life.” The list includes things ranging from playing basketball with President Obama to going to space, and since their project’s inception they have completed more than 80 of the list items. Neirad reporter Reed Barthold sat down with Dave Lingwood - who asked that I call him Dave, one of the four cast members of “The Buried Life” and asked him some questions.

Reed: What is your favorite list item, completed or not completed?

Dave:

My favorite list item - completed - was breaking into the Playboy mansion. My favorite list item - not completed - would have to be to go to space. I really want to go to space."

Reed: If you were told you could only complete one more list item, what would it be?

Dave: Fall in love! Isn’t that the ultimate? Isn’t that it? Don’t we all want a little love?!

Reed: [Since I knew that Dave had recently married in order to complete “Get Married” on the bucket list, I had to ask . . .] So by getting married you technically didn’t fall in love?

Dave: You know, marriage and love is a tough mixture. It’s tough… tough. I’m going to cry thinking about it!

Reed: Can you describe yourself in one word?

Dave: Yes  . . . I can.

Reed: Right now.

Dave: Crazy.

Reed: Crazy?

Dave: Crazzzyyy.

Reed: Describe yourself in high school.

Dave: Crazy.

Reed: Explain that . . . if you can.

Dave: I was the kid that threw all of the events. I threw all the grad parties and gatherings that were not sanctioned by the administration. I was the one in charge of them.

Reed: What is your biggest fear?

Dave: Spelling bees. I’m terrible at spelling bees. My biggest fear is getting up in front of a large crowd and being forced to spell a long word.

Reed: What is the best piece of advice you can give someone?

Dave: Hmm. When you start overthinking something, say “F*ck it,” and just do it.

Reed: That’s good. That’s going on our school’s website.

Dave: As it should! Just say “F*ck it!” and go!

Reed: If you had the chance to start all over again, would you?

Dave: Life? God, no. Like Benjamin Button? No, no thank you! I would never start all over.

Reed: If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?

Dave: Hmm, the ability to grow more facial hair. It’s hard! I’m 25 now, and people are walking around with their full beards, and there I am, Mr. Babyface getting made fun of. I’m Mr. Straggles over here.

Reed: If you could have one song that plays every time you walk into a room, what would it be?

Dave: That’s a good question! The first thing that comes to my head is “Hey Ya!” by Andre 3000. And, you know, if I was feeling particularly gangster that day I would have to go with a little Gang Starr “Full Clip.” You should have the kids download that song, it’s a classic track.

Reed: Is there anything I didn’t ask you that you wish I had?

Dave: Yes: My shoe size, which is a ten, my pant size which is a 32, and my shirt size which is a large or medium… depending on the cotton.

Reed: I’ll try and work on improving the type of questions I ask next time.

Dave: Good, good.

Reed: And, I’m going to have to ask. Will you follow me on Twitter?

Dave: Yes. I, particularly, don’t follow anyone on Twitter. But I will work on @theburiedlife following you on Twitter.
