Welcome to the 2013 – 2014 school year!

Dear Parents,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2013-2014 school year! We look forward to greeting our approximately 415 kindergarten through fifth graders each morning and for the first time, Royle School welcomes 36 pre-k students who participate in the District's Early Learning Program (ELP).
Royle has been a busy place this summer and our Custodial Staff as well as District Facilities Staff have worked hard to get a great deal done in a short period of time. The building has been reconfigured a bit, for example art instruction will now be held on the second floor and we have completed some construction to get three ELP classrooms ready on the first floor. The path near the kindergarten wing on the Mansfield side of the building was re-pitched and repaved and a new oil tank was installed.

During the 2013- 2014 school year, our faculty will continue to work as professional teams to create a learner-centered environment where all students and adults are inspired to learn, where they share responsibility for their own learning and encourage the learning of others. With this in mind, this year we introduce a new mathematics resource, Investigations into Numbers, Data and Space.

Royle School is a community that rallies to celebrate the love of learning. We take pride in our academic, artistic, and athletic achievements as well as what it means to have character. Together, this year we will achieve great things!

My door is always open to parents and students, so feel free to stop by or email me at kmargolus@darienps.org.

Darien Public Schools Implementation of Visitor Management System Tuesday, December 3

The Darien Public Schools will feature a new visitor management system beginning on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.  Visitors who wish to enter school buildings will be requested to scan their photo identification and receive a visitor's badge.  This is part of a new security clearance system aimed at making our schools safer for students and staff.  It offers us a high-tech way of keeping track of who is in our buildings at any time and is useful in cases of emergency.

Expanded use of ASPEN for

Student Contact & Medical Emergency Information

Sharing Directory Info & Email/Text Notifications

Darien is now using ASPEN, a secure Web-based information management system to collect contact and medical emergency information and for parents to request non-disclosure of directory information for students.  School Messenger will be used for email/text notifications in place of Ed Alert.
