Welcome Back !

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It is hard to believe that it is already 2012.  We’d like to update you on some of what the PTO has been doing over the past few months.

As you know, we have been very busy.  The PTO hit the ground running in September with grade level coffees, the annual Back-to-School Family Picnic, and a successful Royle Wrap Up fundraiser.  The UNICEF posters and collections and the beloved Kindergarten Halloween Parade brought October to a close.

A schoolwide Veteran’s Day Celebration, organized brilliantly by the Special Events Committee kicked off November, followed by a well-attended Fall Book Fair, with the wonderful theme “Enter the Kingdom of Reading.”  Proceeds from this year’s Movie Matinee “Elf” went to the Kids Care Club to help purchase toiletries that will be donated to a homeless shelter later in the school year.  Royle Gift Cards ran the Holiday gift card sale and will have another offering this Spring.  December brought an end to the Fall session of Royle Endeavors, culminating with the traditional Gingerbread House Decorating workshops.

The Enrichment Committee was busy from the start, planning visits from storyteller Len Cabral, authors Tony Abbott and Laurie Keller, High Touch High Tech as well as the Boston Museum of Science. In December, the children had a wonderful weeklong visit from Donato D’Ablis, Author -In-Residence, who worked closely with Grades 3 through 5 on various writing techniques.

The PTO has held three well-attended PTO meetings with guest speakers Debbie Bossie, Director of Food Services, the co-chairs of the Darien Advocates for the Education of the Gifted, and Dr. Stephen Falcone, Superintendent of Darien Schools and Dr. Pandolfo, Assistant Superintendent.   In December the PTO held a coffee with Donato D’Ablis. We are looking forward to the January PTO meeting on Thursday, January 19th  when we will hear more from our Assistant Principal, Natasha Torre-Heffron, who will be our guest speaker detailing the SRBI process.  We hope to see you all there.

There are many events already planned for the New Year.  The Father’s Council will once again host an outing to the SoundTigers and the Superbowl Pancake Breakfast.  The Social Committee will be organizing Bingo Night and Rock N’Royle again too.  Keep on collecting those Box Tops as the class contest continues through the winter.  The Nominating Committee is already beginning to prepare next year’s slate and would love to hear how you would like to get involved.

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.

Best regards,

Nicole Feingold & Tricia Spenner
