The senior internship committee has been hard at work organizing this year’s program and has made some changes that will benefit our students. The most important of those changes is the new policy on what work we will be requiring students to complete as a condition for their participation.
After researching what other schools in our region are doing and after reviewing feedback from the faculty, the following will be the new school-wide policy:
Students are responsible for completing all regularly assigned work up until the date the internship starts. The students CANNOT be given additional work that would reflect content taught after they depart for their internship experience. Projects that are part of the regular course curriculum and are assigned prior to the start of the internship may be modified to allow the student to meet the expectations of the course but must be submitted before the internship begins. The students may also be responsible for a final exam, but one that reflects only the topics covered before they leave for the internship. Students are required to have an academic planner filled out with their teacher’s requirements for the class (up until the student leaves for internship) with both the student’s and teacher’s signature. There will also be a teacher sign off just before the student leaves for the internship stating that all work was completed in full. The students CANNOT be given additional work to be completed after the internship starts.
More information about programmatic changes and an opportunity to further discuss these changes will take place at the December faculty meeting.
