An Artist's Rendering of Darien High School

Information for Work Sites

The purpose of this program is to expose students to the workplace outside of their formal educational experience as well as provide businesses with motivated and eager workers and a potential pool of future employees. We are currently looking for internship sites for DHS seniors and hope that you will consider hosting a student intern.”

Rationale: Student internship programs, where young people learn first-hand about the workplace, benefit not only participating students but their community, their employers and their school. For the participating businesses, interns provide motivated, eager workers for the duration of the internship, give insiders a fresh look at their business, and provide a potential pool of future employees known to the employer and familiar with that particular workplace. In addition, the organization hosting a work site is helping in the education and formation of a young person. The Internship Program is designed to provide students with workplace experience, opportunity for career exploration and transition from high school.

Internship Program Format:

  • The program consists of a four-week, unpaid internship, the last four weeks of the academic year. *Currently the dates are from May 21- June 12, but a large number of snow days could delay the start date by a few days.
  • Intern on-site work hours will be from 25 - 30 hours per week according to the schedule determined by the work site supervisor, and the work site’s needs.
  • The program is designed to operate during school hours (with interns working their hours sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.), but other arrangements may be made with particular students.
  • All students will be assigned to a faculty mentor who will meet the work site supervisor, communicate with the student on a regular basis, and be available to the work site supervisor for consultation and help.”
