COURSE INFORMATION

Attendance:  Students will be expected to be in class according to the attendance policy of Darien High School.  It is my belief that learning takes place only when teachers and students work together.  This can only occur if both teachers and students attend class on a regular basis.  If you are out of school because of an illness, you are required to make-up any missed work.  It is your responsibility and should be done as soon as possible when you return to school. 

Extra Help:  Students may come for extra help during any of my preparation periods, after school or any morning at 6:30 AM.  Do not wait to the last minute to request extra help.  My schedule is posted in room C-211.

Homework:  Homework assignments are given on a regular basis.  Solutions to all problems will be posted and a select group of problems will be gone over in class.  Students should be prepared to discuss these problems when called upon.  No homework assignments will be graded.  Unannounced quizzes on the homework will be given periodically.

Lab Reports:  Lab reports will be due two school days after the lab has been completed.  If you turn in a lab report one day late you will lose 10 points.  If you turn in a lab report two days late you will lose 20 points.  No lab report will be accepted if more than two days late.  If you miss a lab because of illness, you must make-up the work within one week.

Grading:

Quizzes-There will be seven to nine unannounced quizzes each quarter.  If a student is present for every quiz, I will drop the lowest quiz grade.  The first quiz a student misses will be dropped.  Any other quiz missed can be made up by scheduling an appointment with me.  Three additional bonus points will be added to the quiz total for perfect attendance.  You will lose one bonus point for each absence. During each quarter one or two  homework assignments will be checked and counted as a quiz.   These grades will be averaged and count as a test.

Tests-There will be three or four tests each quarter.  They will be averaged with the quiz test grade and will count 75% of your grade.

Lab Reports-The remaining 25% of your grade will be based on the seven or eight written lab reports you submit for grading. 10% of each lab report will be based on my observations of your performance in the lab.
