Step 2 Activity

Create a memorial to capture the spirit of American following the 9/11 attacks.

In the creation of your memorial, it is important that remember that what you exclude from a memorial is equally as important as what is included. You should take careful time in your preparation to ensure that you are representing the entirety of 9/11 in your memorial. Your memorial should also reflect sensitivity to the emotional and personal nature of the event. Due to our close proximity to NYC, the events of 9/11 may have had an impact upon members of our community that you may not be aware of.

Remembering the Day: 9/11 Ten Years Later

On the clear morning of September 11,2001, the world changed tragically forever. Regardless of nationality, faith, or ethnicity , the terror attacks on American soil had wide spread repercussions through communities around the world. Over the last ten years, the memories for those who were old enough to remember the events have continued to remain clear, as significant events often are. For those too young to comprehend or for those not yet born, the presence of 9/11 has been a constant – an event shrouded in mystique that has been a defining event for the majority of their lives.

On the tenth anniversary of the attacks, it is appropriate that we take time to reflect on the events that unfolded but more importantly, on the way that those attacks impacted the local, national, and global communities of which the United States is a part.
