In this project, you will work independently to create a 30-second PSA that can air on WAVE TV, be shown on the school VBRICK system, or posted on our school website. Develop your ideas for a PSA to raise awareness about a health, safety, or environmental issue.

What is a PSA?

Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are non-commercial announcements that benefit their intended audience, rather than the company that created them. For example, a PSA that provides boating and fishing information differs from a paid ad that promotes the sale of boating and fishing products. Most PSAs are produced by non-profit organizations, but commercial, for-profit organizations may also use them to promote non-profit activities and events.

Step 2-Choose An Awareness Issue

Goal - Raise awareness about a health, safety, or environmental issue.

· Self Defense
· Motorcycle Helmets

Step 3 – Research Your Topic

Obtain information by using the library, Internet and/or knowledgeable professionals to educate yourself and fuel your PSA. A visit to DHS health teachers could also be a great start.

Step 4 -Shot List and Storyboard

• Type a shot list in Microsoft Word- Example
• Must include at least 6 different angles- Guide to Video Launguage (shot angles & other good stuff)
• construct a storyboard in PowerPoint to Pre visualize your PSA based on your research and shot list. Download and save this PowerPoint file. Directions Included. Download (right click and then choose from the menu "save target as"
• Be mindful of the Rule Of Thirds

Step 5 - Filming

• Next, use a digital video camera to film your scenes. You may need to scout locations for filming on or near the school grounds.
• New Rule- **** No tripod=No Camera****
• With special permission you may use the production studio and/or green screen to create a special effect shot where the actor will appear in front of a high resolution still photograph or other video footage. (Remember your keying lesson)

All Filming should be complete by 1/12/06

Step 6- Post Production

• Once filming is complete, use batch capturing to import your best takes into Vegas
• Edit the video clips
• Color correct
• Record narration (voice over)
• Add titles, transitions, and other elements.

All Post Production will be completed by 1/20/06

Step 7- Rendering

Projects will be rendered for use in both broadcast (DVD or VHS) and network streaming formats (VBRICK).

Step 8- Assessment

I will provide a detailed rubric and timeline with due dates to evaluate your progress and overall grade.
