Lear= ning Expectations

Darien High School students will:=

Course Descri= ption

This course is a continuation of Algebra 1. Algebra deals with operations and = relations between and among numbers, including real and imaginary numbers. Students will further develop their ability to solve various types of equations and word problems.

Attendance

As stated in the student handbook, three unexcused tardies equal one unexcused absence (cut) and 3 cuts = equal an X (loss of academic credit) for the quarter. Cutting class will also result in detention, parental notification, and a grade penalty. Even if absences are excused, a st= udent may not miss more than 20% (approximately 8) of class days during any given quarter. If a student misses a class for any reason, it is his/her responsibility to get the notes from another student. If a student= cuts class the day of a quiz or test, he/she will receive a zero.

Materials

Students must come to class every day prepared and wil= ling to learn.

Homework=

Homework reinforces the concepts learned in class and allows students to build skill and confidence. In order to earn credit for a home= work assignment, a student must make a good-faith attempt at completing each problem. Students will receive homework almost every night.

Grading
A student will determine his/her grade as follows:
- &nbs= p; Missing or incomplete homework will result in a loss of points.=
- &nbs= p; Quizzes are worth 50 points.
- The purpose of these assignme= nts is to keep all material learned fresh in a student’s mind. I may collect these assignmen= ts and grade them as a quiz.
- I may raise or lower a student’s grade based on these factors.
Expectations<= o:p>
- The primary purpose of school is for students to be in a positive and safe learning environment. Any student who either stops me from teaching or prevents another student = from learning will be asked to leave class. Being removed from class will result in parental notification, detention, and a lowering of the student’s grade.
- I expect students to be seated at their desks ready to learn.
- All students will particip= ate in class.
- Inappropriate speech (includi= ng profanity) and bullying wil= l not be tolerated.
- = Vandalism or destruction of school property (including writing = on desks) will be dealt with harshly.
