Tokeneke Kids Care Club 2009-2010

 

Welcome!  Kids Care Club is a national organization dedicated to helping children develop the spirit of charity and compassion through hands-on projects.  This year at Tokeneke the club is open to all students in grades 2-5.  We will meet once a month from 2:50-3:45 pm on a Wednesday in the Common Room.  Students are free to attend any or all meetings.  Registration forms/permission slips will be required for each event and will be sent home via backpack mail.  Below is a list of meeting dates and topics.  If you have any questions, please contact Kim Hathaway (hathawayk@juno.com), Yvonne Dempsey (evosh67@yahoo.com), or Denise McLaughlin (mcdenise1@optonline.net).

 

September 30- **Please bring a new package of pens or pencils.

Introduction, planning, expectations…We will assemble staff survival packs and discuss the October coat drive.

 

November 4-**Please bring one new box of crayons.

“Nuns on Wheels”…We will donate coats, hats, and mittens to the Fraternite Notre Dame in NYC.  This organization provides many services to the needy, to include over 300 meals per week..  One of the nuns will give a brief presentation and answer questions.  Afterward, we will discuss the Thanksgiving turkey drive.

 

November 23 or 24th (TBD)-

Please donate a turkey for a needy family for Thanksgiving dinner.

 

December 16-**Please bring a new box of markers.

We will learn about domestic violence and hear students from DHS teenpeaceworks.  We will make dry soup mixes to be donated to the DVCC shelters in Stamford and Norwalk.

 

January 13-**Please bring a new ruler and/or pencil erasers.

We will hear a speaker from a nature/wildlife facility that cares for injured/orphaned wildlife and make treats for our backyard friends to enjoy in the cold of  winter.

 

February 10-**Please bring a pocket folder or 2 or 3!

We will kick off our Tokeneke Kindness Campaign and make Valentine placemats for donation.

 

March 24-26- Used book/videotape/DVD sale during Parent-Teacher conferences from 1-3 pm in the Hall.  We will donate all proceeds and collected school supplies to the Darien Back to School Program at Darien Social Services. **

 

May 19-**Please bring lined paper or a spiral notebook for donation.  We will have a speaker from the Obie Harrington Howes Foundation which helps to maintain and improve the quality of life of people with spinal cord injuries.  We’ll gear up for our 3rd annual Jump-rope-a-thon.

 

June 2- Jump-rope-a-thon to benefit the OHH Foundation.  Bring your jump rope, a smile, and tons of energy…water, popsicles, and music will be provided.
