Data Privacy

The Darien Public School District follows legal requirements to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff while using any technology resource. We review privacy policies and terms of service to ensure that each resource conforms to legal requirements and local guidelines.

What digital applications or services are available for instruction?

Privacy contracts and a list of approved resources for teaching and learning may be accessed here:

Software

Additional contract information for non-software vendors that may collect student-identifiable information as part of their service to the district may be found on this web page.

Data Privacy

In some instances, new software resources will require the provider to agree to the student data privacy laws of Connecticut (General Statutes 10-234aa et seq.) Additional background is provided in this video provided by the State of Connecticut.

  1. Vendors of digital applications and services that have signed the Connecticut Student Privacy Pledge are easier to adopt rapidly.
  2. If an application or service is not listed in the Learn Platform Privacy Portal as Connecticut Privacy Compliant, then we must ask the vendor to agree to Darien’s privacy agreement if data is collected as outlined in the table below.
  3. If the vendor will not sign a privacy agreement or the vendor is not already identified as privacy compliant, then the district will not move forward with that particular application or service.

To be clear, not all resources need a privacy agreement pledge:
