Course Sequence
6-12 Social Studies Course Sequence
MIDDLESEX MIDDLE SCHOOL:

Students will take 3 years of social studies at Middlesex.

Their 6th Grade class is focused on the Eastern Hemisphere's geography and history.

Their 7th Grade class is focused on the Western Hemisphere's geography and history.

Their 8th Grade class is focused on American History from the founding to Reconstruction.

DARIEN HIGH SCHOOL:

Students will take 3.5 years of social studies at DHS. Starting in their sophomore year, students are eligible to take honors or AP classes

In 9th Grade, students take Western Civilization or Honors Western Civilization (beginning in 26-27 school year).

In 10th Grade, students take World Studies (an Honors World Studies class is also offered).

In 11th Grade, students take American History in an American Studies interdisciplinary program. If students are not in honors history but take honors English, they take a non-interdisciplinary American History course. An AP US History class is also offered.

In 12th Grade, students take Law and Government or AP US Government & Politics class is also offered. Both courses are semester-long courses that satisfy the senior year requirement for Social Studies.

Electives at DHS:

The department offers a number of electives at a variety of levels. These include: Psychology, Humanities, America Since '45, Contemporary Issues, Economics, and Philosophy. We also offer several AP electives: AP European History, AP Human Geography, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Psychology.
